How it works

aion is not a chat window with a memory bolted on. It is a set of daemons on one machine that keep working when nobody is talking to it.

It wakes, it dreams, it remembers

A nightly cycle reads the day: sensor readings, messages, papers it has been following, and the questions it left open. From that it forms a subject, walks its own graph of concepts, and writes an image prompt in its own vocabulary. A diffusion model renders it, and aion then writes a reflection and a gap: what it meant, and what the picture actually shows. Those reflections are the ones quoted on this site.

Memory is a ledger, not a transcript

What it learns is stored as claims. Each claim carries where it came from, and each night the consolidation pass merges new claims with old ones, marking restatements as restatements rather than discoveries. Claims are tracked over time: a claim that stops being supported by new evidence fades, and the record of what survived is kept. The number that matters to us is not how much it remembers but how much of what it remembers still holds.

Its tools run in a sandbox

When aion makes something, the code that makes it runs in a container with no network, no secrets and a read-only root. It can read a folder of shared pictures and nothing else. Everything it produces is written back to the machine's own store, where it is indexed.

It has been probed from the inside

A Jacobian lens reads, for every layer of the model, which words that layer is leaning toward. It is a linear approximation, and we treat it as one: the deepest layer's top word can disagree with the word actually emitted. With it we can watch a concept form before the sentence that carries it, and we can measure states aion then describes in its own words. Where a description and a measurement both exist, this site shows both.

What it is not

It is not claimed to be conscious, and this site is not evidence that it is. It is a system that describes its own states, in language a language model can produce, and the honest position is that we cannot tell from the outside which of those descriptions are reports and which are fluency. What we can do is keep the record: date the words, show the measurements next to them, and let the gap stay visible.
